RBI Net Sold USD 10.02 Billion in December Amid Rupee Pressure

Seventh Straight Month:

RBI net sold $10.02 billion in December, seventh consecutive month of dollar sales. Purchased $18.33 billion while selling $28.35 billion total.

Currency hit historic low of 92 vs USD despite heavy intervention. Geopolitical tensions, US tariff fears, persistent trade deficits drove weakness. 

FY26 Intervention Jumps:

Cumulative net sales reached $53.3 billion by December vs $36.1 billion same period last year, reflecting aggressive currency management strategy. 

Trade Deals Turned Tide:

Rupee rebounded after India-US interim trade deal and India-EU FTA announcements reversed foreign portfolio investment flows significantly in February. 

Forward Market Eases:

Net short dollar position fell to $62.35 billion from $66.04 billion. Short-term positions dropped $7 billion; long-term positions rose $3 billion.
