    Types of Aadhaar KYC

    There are three main types of identity verification in the Aadhaar KYC process:

    • Aadhaar eKYC: Aadhaar eKYC is an electronic verification method where the service provider (e.g., bank, telecom, or financial institution) directly retrieves the customer's Aadhaar details from the UIDAI database after receiving the customer’s consent.
    • Aadhaar offline KYC: Aadhaar offline KYC allows individuals to share their Aadhaar details in an offline manner, without involving real-time data exchange with the UIDAI. This method gives more control to users as they can choose to download their information and share it as needed.
    • Aadhaar-Based KYC via QR Code: The process is performed through a secure OR code that contains encrypted personal details. You can do that by scanning the QR code helping service providers to verify your identity without storing your aadhaar number

    What is Aadhaar Offline e-KYC?

    Aadhaar paperless offline e-KYC allows Aadhaar cardholders to submit without the submission of a physical photocopy of the Aadhaar card. As a cardholder, you can directly download the KYC XML file and share it with agencies for identity verification.

    To ensure the authenticity and prevent tampering, the KYC information is provided in a machine-readable XML format, which is digitally signed by UIDAI.  Additionally, agencies need OTP or face authentication methods to verify the user.

    What data is covered in Aadhaar offline e-KYC data?

    The following fields are included in the XM while downloading/obtaining offline e-KYC data:

    • Resident Name
    • Download Reference Number
    • Address
    • Photo
    • Gender
    • Date of Birth
    • Mobile Number (in hashed form)
    • Email (in hashed form)

    To read KYC data by agencies, you need to provide the ‘Share Phrase’ at the time of downloading for Aadhaar paperless offline e-KYC data.

    For authentication purposes, the offline e-KYC process is a fast and convenient way for Aadhaar cardholders to provide KYC details. You just need to download an XML file of the KYC information and provide it to the relevant requesting agencies.

    The following are the two kinds of Aadhar eKYC processes:

    • Biometrics: It includes providing a 12-digit number and biometric data that includes both an iris scan and a fingerprint.

    • Step 5: Enter the OTP to complete the verification process.

    What are the documents required for Aadhaar KYC?

    Below are the documents required for aadhaar KYC:

    • Identity Proof: PAN card with photograph, Passport, Voter ID, Driving license, or Unique Identification Number (UID) (Aadhaar), Identity cards issued by Public Sector Undertakings, Public Financial Institutions, or Scheduled Commercial Banks, Identity card or document with applicant’s photo, issued by any of the following: Central or State Government and its Departments, Statutory or Regulatory Authorities
    • Address proof: Utility bills like Telephone Bill (only land line), Electricity bill or Gas bill which should not be more than three months old, Self-declaration by High Court and Supreme Court judges, to provide the new address in respect of their own accounts, Passport, Voters Identity Card, Ration Card, Registered Lease or Sale Agreement of Residence, Insurance Copy, Driving License, or Flat Maintenance bill, Bank Account Statement or Passbook which is not more than three months, Proof of address in the name of the spouse.
