SJVN Limited (formerly Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam) is a Navratna public sector enterprise under India's Ministry of Power, established in 1988 as a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. SJVN specializes in hydroelectric, wind, and solar power generation. The company operates major projects like the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station and has a total installed capacity of over 2,400 MW. History of SJVN
1988: SJVN Ltd was incorporated as a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
2002–2003: Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station, India’s largest hydro project at the time, became fully operational.
2003: The Company was renamed from NJPC to SJVN Ltd, reflecting its broader vision beyond just Nathpa Jhakri.
2005: SJVN started diversifying into other hydro projects and gradually moved into thermal, solar, wind, and power transmission sectors.
2010: SJVN was listed on NSE and BSE through an IPO. It became a publicly traded company.
2012: Commissioned the 412 MW Rampur Hydro Electric Project, another major hydro initiative in Himachal Pradesh.
2013–2019: Expanded operations to other Indian states like Uttarakhand, Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Arunachal Pradesh.
