About National Aluminium Company Ltd
National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) is a major Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India. It operates in the mining, metal, and power sectors. NALCO was incorporated in 1981 and began bauxite mining in 1985. In 1986, it built an Alumina Refinery and an aluminium smelter in Koraput. By 1988, it began exporting alumina and aluminium. In 1999, NALCO set new records in bauxite mining, alumina production, and exports. In 2001, it entered the detergent business. In 2003, it commissioned a 120 MW captive power plant and 120 pots of smelter with a capacity of 57,500 MT of aluminium per year. In May 2008, NALCO was offered Navratna status. In 2017, NALCO, Hindustan Copper (HCL), and Mineral Exploration Corporation (MECL) signed an MoU to build India's self-reliance in 12 strategic materials.
