Bank of India Account Number

Bank of India (BOI) is one of the banks that was established before India became independent. It offers a wide range of products to meet customers' needs, including retail banking, corporate banking, loans, and asset management. To make electronic fund transfers easier, the bank has switched to a new 15-digit account number format, replacing the older, shorter account numbers.

This change was made because of a directive from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which aims to standardize account numbers across all banks in India. The goal is to make interbank transactions more uniform and easier for customers. The new 15-digit account number is used for all types of transactions, whether they are done electronically or offline, and is required for services like: NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, and ECS among others.

To switch from the old short account number to the new 15-digit number, customers only need to visit any Bank of India branch and request the change. The bank will then provide the new account number. The structure of the 15-digit account number depends on the type of account the customer holds. The bank offers different account numbers for different types of accounts, including:

  • Savings Account
  • Current Account
  • Loan Account
  • Deposits Account

So, if a customer wants to deposit money into a loan account, they need to provide the loan account number.

Format of Bank of India Account Number

A BOI account number has 15 digits, and it is coded in a specific way:

  • The first 4 digits represent the branch code, which is unique to each branch.
  • The next 4 digits show the type of account, such as a loan account, savings account, or current account. Each type has a different code.
  • The last 7 digits are your actual account number.

This 15-digit account number is used for all banking purposes as provided by the bank.
