The NIFTY 500 live is India's first broad-based index on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), comprising 500 stocks from around 13,000 companies. It represents 96.1% of float-adjusted market capitalization on NSE and has a combined weightage of 67% in the top 5 sectors. The index was launched on January 1, 1995, and has since breached levels of 13000 at 20.05 P/E multiples. NSE Indices Limited, previously known as India Index Services & Products Limited, manages the index. The index is disaggregated into 72 industry indices, with two variants: the NIFTY 500 Total Returns Index and NIFTY 500 Industry Indices. It is suitable for launching index funds, ETFs, structured products, and benchmarking fund portfolios. 

How is NIFTY 500 Calculated

The index value is computed as follows:

Index value = Current market capitalization/ (Base market capitalization * Base Index Value)

The nifty 500 share price is evaluated semi-annually, with six months of data collected between January and July of each year. The replacement of equities (if any), limited to a maximum of 25 in a given year, begins on the final trading day of March and September. You can check the Nifty 500 index live with BlinkX.

Nifty 500 Stocks List Selection Criteria

  • Calculated by weighting 501 stocks based on free-float market capitalization relative to a base market capitalization value.
  • Companies must be part of the 'Eligible Universe', including listing on the National Stock Exchange, ranking within the top 800, trading for at least 90% of days in the previous six months, and ranking among the top 350.
  • Stocks having a whole market capitalization of 1.50 times the final component of the NIFTY 500 index are included.
  • Stocks with a rank below 800 based on full market capitalization are excluded.
  • Newly listed securities' eligibility is verified over three months.
  • Equity securities with Differential Voting Rights can be included.
  • The average impact cost should not exceed 1% in the previous six months.
  • Ineligible stocks include preferred stock, convertible stock, rights, warrants, bonds providing guaranteed fixed return, stocks under suspension, and BZ series.
