History of Tata Communications Ltd
In February 2002, Tata Communications sold 25% of its stake in VSNL to a strategic partner and hence gave the Tata Group a 50% stake in the company. The year 2008 was when the company changed its brand name to Tata Communications Limited (TCL), and under this brand name began a new chapter under the administration of the Tata Group.
Subsequently, in FY21, the Government of India has completely divested its remaining 26.12% shareholding. Out of this, 16.12% was sold to the general public, and the remaining 10% was transferred to Tata Communications' promoter group through an off-market transaction. As of FY23, Tata Group has a high 58.86% holding in TCL, reiterating their lead position in the company.
