India's core sector growth at 8.1% in September 2023: Centre

India's core sector comprising of eight key infrastructure components increased by 8.1% year-on-year (YoY) in September 2023, as per the data released by Commerce and Industry Ministry on Tuesday.

 

The production of Coal, Steel, Electricity, Natural Gas, Refinery Products, Cement and Fertilizers recorded positive growth in September 2023 over the corresponding month of last year, said the Ministry.

 

Further, the ICI measures combined and individual performance of production of eight core industries and comprise 40.27% of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).

 

As per the data released on Tuesday, cement production increased by 4.7% in September 2023 over September 2022. Coal production increased by 16.1% during this period.

 

However, crude oil production declined by 0.4% in the month of September 2023 over last year. Electricity generation grew 9.3% yoy during this month. Fertilizer production increased by 4.2% during this period.

 

While petroleum refinery production increased by 5.5% yoy in September 2023, the steel production increased by 9.6% during this period.
