The ASX 200 rose 49 points, or 0.6%, to 8,736 on Tuesday, marking its third straight gain. Stronger U.S. stock futures helped offset pressure from rising Treasury yields, while investors awaited the minutes of the Fed's September meeting.
Local sentiment was supported by Australian job ads rising for a fifth consecutive month, pointing to steady labour demand despite earlier RBA rate hikes. However, gains were capped by a second straight monthly fall in consumer confidence amid higher fuel and borrowing costs.
Commercial services, healthcare and financial stocks led the advance. BHP Group gained 1.5% and Rio Tinto rose 1.4%, while the big four banks added between 0.1% and 0.9%.
On the downside, Codan fell 4.7%, while Wisetech Global dropped 2.9%, Nextdc 2.5% and Technology One 1.9%. Investors now await September industry data and final August building permits.
