Bharti Airtel faces customs penalty, plans to challenge order

Bharti Airtel has disclosed that it received an order from the Principal Commissioner of Customs, Delhi Air Customs Commissionerate, imposing a penalty of 9,01,95,504.

Nature of Action: The penalty was levied under Section 28 of the Customs Act, 1962, and relates to an alleged incorrect classification of imported goods.

 

Date of Receipt: Bharti Airtel received the order from the customs authority on October 7, 2023, at 11:04 AM.

 

Company Response: The telecom giant has stated that it intends to challenge the order at the appellate forum. However, the company emphasized that the order's issuance has no material impact on its financial, operational, or other activities.
