Defence Ministry inks Rs 458 crore deal with HAL for two dornier aircraft

A deal for the purchase of two Dornier aircraft for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and a related engineering support package totaling Rs 458.87 crore was signed by the Ministry of Defence and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Friday. The purchase of the aircraft will fall under the Buy (Indian) Category.

The aircraft will be equipped with a variety of cutting-edge tools, including a glass cockpit, a maritime patrol radar, an EO/IR device, a mission management system, and more. The acquisition will strengthen the ICG's capabilities to conduct aircraft surveillance over its maritime domains.

According to the government's "Make in India" policy, the Dornier aircraft is being produced domestically at HAL (Transport Aircraft Division), Kanpur, and will considerably aid in reaching Aatmanirbharta in the field of defence.
