Grasim plans to start a paint business named "Birla Opus"

The Aditya Birla Group's main company, Grasim Industries Ltd., will introduce its paints business in the March quarter of the fiscal year 2024. In the decorative paints market, the company intends to provide a comprehensive range of top-notch goods.

Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said the company intends to become a profitable No.2 player. "The company has over the past couple of years built a strong foundation to enable a successful business launch," he said.

In addition to introducing a variety of imported wood finishes, Grasim has already launched the first-of-its-kind painting service in significant metro areas. In Maharashtra, it has already established an R&D facility.

The corporation owned by the Aditya Birla Group entered the paints industry in January 2021 with an initial investment of Rs 5,000 crore, which increased to Rs 10,000 crore in May of the following year.

The production facilities of Grasim would have a combined capacity of 1,332 million liters per annum (MLPA) and will be situated in Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and West Bengal.

The company states that the decorative paints industry in India is presently worth Rs 70,000 crore and is expanding by double digits annually as a result of increased consumer aspirations and the Housing for All initiative.

With a market share of 59% as of March of this year, Asian Paints leads the paints sector, followed by Berger (18%) and Kansai Nerolac (15%).
