L&T Construction wins mega order for underground road tunnel project

L&T Construction's Heavy Civil Infrastructure business division has secured a substantial order from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The project involves the design and construction of an Underground Road tunnel, connecting Orange Gate on the Eastern Free Way to the Marine Drive Coastal Road in Mumbai.

The key aspects of this project encompass the design and construction of twin road tunnels, which will be created using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). These tunnels will link to the existing elevated Eastern Freeway at Orange Gate through transition ramps and extend to Marine Drive in Mumbai. The tunnel alignment primarily follows the route under Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road and is slated for completion within 54 months.
