L&T Secures Significant Order from West Bengal Power Development Corporation
Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a leading engineering and construction conglomerate, announced on Wednesday that its power business arm has won an order valued at up to Rs 2,500 crore from the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited. While the exact contract value wasn't disclosed, L&T classified the orders as "significant," falling within the range of Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 2,500 crore.
This Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) order pertains to the establishment of wet Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) systems for the Thermal Power Plant at Sagardighi in West Bengal, as outlined in a regulatory filing.
Notably, this marks L&T's inaugural FGD project with a state-owned power utility. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, has mandated the installation of FGD systems in both existing and upcoming thermal power plants to mitigate SO2 emissions.
With this latest order, L&T is positioned to implement FGD projects for thermal plants totaling over 19 GW, actively contributing to the government's drive to reduce SO2 emissions. With a revenue exceeding USD 21 billion, Larsen & Toubro is a prominent Indian multinational engaged in EPC Projects, advanced manufacturing, and related services.
