Sabotage causes uncontrolled flow from Oil India's oil well in Duliajan

In a troubling turn of events, vandals have vandalized OIL's NHK-67 well near Duliajan, severing the entire X-Mass tree above the adapter. This act of sabotage, discovered on the evening of October 19, 2023, has resulted in an uncontrolled release of well fluids, primarily water, from the wellhead. Since 2016, the well had been in a shut-in state. OIL promptly filed an FIR with the local police and notified the District Administration Authority.

Situated in a depleted reservoir within the Bordubi area, the crisis prompted the activation of Oil India Ltd.'s Crisis Management Team (CMT). Fire tenders have been deployed on-site, and urgent measures are underway to cap the well. An on-site task force, working closely with local authorities, is coordinating efforts to control the water flow and restore the well to a stable condition. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding critical infrastructure against acts of vandalism and sabotage.
