Torrent implementing green hydrogen pilot for blending in CGD: advancing India's low-carbon future

By beginning work on a Green Hydrogen pilot project for blending with natural gas in the city gas distribution (CGD) network, Torrent Power, India's largest integrated power utility business, has made a significant contribution to a greener future. The Alkaline Electrolyzer-based pilot project, which is anticipated to be finished in 8 months, will incorporate 2.5% GH2 into the CGD network, marking a significant turning point in the company's entry into the GH2 market in India.

One of India's biggest private sector blending initiatives will be this Torrent Gas experimental plant in Gorakhpur.

With this move, Torrent has begun the process of integrating GH2 into its daily operations. Coupled with its strong position in RE, Torrent now hopes to establish itself as India's top end-to-end GH2 solution provider. The corporation, which has active interests in several states, is also considering developing green ammonia with an eye toward export.

The integrated power utility of the diversified Torrent Group, with group revenues of around 37,000 Crore (approximately USD 4.45 billion) and a market cap of 75,000 Crore (approximately USD 9 billion), is called Torrent Power. It has an annual revenue of roughly 25,000 Crore (approximately USD 3 billion).

With operations across the whole value chain of power, including generation, transmission, and distribution, it is one of the biggest power firms in India.
