NLC India announces its plan to set up coal-based power plants in Odisha
The state-owned company NLC India announced the plan to build three 800-MW coal-based power plants in Odisha.
The company stated that it completed a power purchase agreement with GRIDCO, an Odisha state power undertaking, for the purchase of 400 megawatts of power from the proposed Jharsuguda and Sambalpur thermal power plants.
According to the company, work is in progress on the land acquisition procedure and the evaluation of offers for the project's construction contractor shortlist.
“With this, the entire power of 2400 MW has been tied up on long-term basis with Tamil Nadu- TANGEDCO (1500 MW), Puducherry- PED (100 MW), Kerala- KSEBL (400 MW) and Odisha- GRIDCO (400 MW),” the company told exchanges.
Mining and power generating are the two main businesses of NLC India, a "Navaratna" central public sector company.
In Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, it operates lignite mines. Additionally, it works on renewable energy projects with a concentration on the production of solar and wind energy.
