About S&P BSE 250 SmallCap Index Today
The BSE has introduced many indices to assist investors in judging their market investments. These indices are also available online and can easily be monitored.
The list includes the S&P BSE 250 SmallCap Index, which tracks the performance of 250 SmallCap companies making up the BSE 500 and excludes companies forming part of the S&P BSE 100 and BSE 150 MidCap. In this case, the price index bases itself on S&P BSE 250 SmallCap, becoming highly volatile to be considered properly right before investment.
These kinds of small-cap companies are usually less risky, with perhaps better returns from other small-cap stocks, offering more stability. However, a cautious review of all details is very important before investing in any. You can further track the BSE 250 SmallCap Index Today on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Calculation of BSE SmallCap Index
All the indices are computed on a free-float market capitalization methodology instead of weighted market capitalization. The calculation will consider only the liquid stocks that are effectively traded at any point in time.
The companies, on the basis of the 85-15-5 rule, showing the percentage of total market capitalization of BSE AllCap held by each company, are grouped into LargeCap, MidCap, and SmallCap.
The value of this index again is dependent upon the share price emanating from the BSE 250 SmallCap index. You can calculate this share price with the aid of the formula given below:
Price of BSE SmallCap 250 Share = Total Free-float Market Capitalization x Base Index Value / Base Market Capitalization
It uses only the free float market capitalizations of the 250 companies that form the index. These are the firms that feature in the BSE 500 but not in the BSE 150 MidCap and BSE 100.
Since the index value can change at frequent intervals, it is recommended to check its latest value prior to investment into it to minimize probable losses. Use the latest data for correct investment decisions.
