Understanding Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd’s PE Ratio (BSE: CHAMBLFERT)

The Price-to-Earnings (PE) ratio, used to assess Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd's stock (BSE: CHAMBLFERT), indicates how many years it would take for the company to earn back the stock price. If a company earns ₹2 per share annually and its stock trades at ₹30, the PE ratio is 15, signifying a 15-year payback period assuming steady earnings. Earnings fluctuate, affecting the payback period, Growing earnings shorten the recovery time while declining earnings extend it. Shareholders favor shorter payback periods, preferring lower PE stocks. Among stocks with the same PE ratio, faster-growing businesses are preferred. A company with losses makes the PE ratio meaningless. Peter Lynch introduced the PEG ratio to compare stocks with different growth rates, dividing the PE ratio by the growth rate. A company is considered fairly valued when its PE ratio matches its growth rate. The PE ratio, applicable across industries, measures stock valuation based on earnings power. It indicates how quickly an investment can be recouped. Unlike the PB ratio, which assesses valuation based on the balance sheet, the PE ratio focuses on earnings. Overall, the PE ratio provides insights into stock valuation, aligning with investors' preference for faster returns.

About Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd

About Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd

The Company manufactures Urea in its three plants located at Gadepan, District Kota, Rajasthan with an aggregate annual production capacity of around 3.4 million Metric Tons (MT . Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Ltd was incorporated in the year May 07th, 1985 and was promoted by Zuari Agro Chemicals. During the year 2006-07, CFCL Overseas was incorporated as a Special Purpose Vehicle for consolidation of their software business. The implementation at Gadepan - I plant was completed in March 2009 and at Gadepan- II plant in April 2009. The company divested one third of their 50% holding in Zuari Investments Ltd to Zuari Industries Ltd in March 2009. Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals' Single Super Phosphate (SSP) unit at Gadepan commenced production in second half of the financial year ended 31 March 2013. During the year, the company expanded its marketing network by setting up a marketing office at Bhatinda, Punjab, in addition to the existing office at Chandigarh. This has resulted into long delays in payment of subsidy to the fertiliser companies thereby substantially increasing industry's interest burden. Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals had to shutdown Gadepan - II plant from February 8, 2015 due to un-favourable policy of the Government of India for production beyond 100% capacity. This project will be a stepping-stone in the journey of growth of the company as there will be an increase of about 63% in the present Urea production capacity of the company. Accordingly, CECL and CEOL stand amalgamated with CIVL with effect from the appointed date of April 1, 2015. During FY'22, Inuva Info Management Private Limited (Inuva) was dissolved upon voluntary liquidation from May 03, 2021 and ceased to be a subsidiary of ISGN, India and the Company.
