- Williamson Financial Services Limited, formerly known as 'The Makum Tea Co. (India) Limited' was incorporated on December 17, 1971 in the State of Assam and it received the Certificate of Commencement of Business on August 18, 1972 from the Registrar of Companies, Assam.
- The Company was acquired as a going concern undertaking in India of The Makum (Assam) Tea Company Limited, UK. The main activity was growing, cultivation and manufacturer of tea. In accordance with a Scheme of Arrangement approved by the shareholder of the erstwhile, Makum Tea Co. (India) Limited and McLeod Russel (India) Limited. and confirmed by the Hon'ble High Courts at Gauhati and Calcutta the three tea estates of the Company viz.
- Dehing, Dirok and Margherita Tea Estates were transferred to McLeod Russel (India) Limited with effect from April 1, 1994.
