History of Reliance Power Limited

Reliance Power is one of the leading companies in this energy sector, having a much broader perspective towards the generation of power in almost all segments. Generation of Thermal Power: The portfolio of projects in thermal power generation is quite impressive. Ultra Mega Power Project, Sasan, MP - 3,960 MW - One of the largest projects falling under its category, this is mainly aimed at strengthening the energy supply of the country. Solar PV Project: Dhursar, Rajasthan- The 40 MW solar photovoltaic project adds to its Renewable portfolio. Concentrated Solar Power Project: Pokhran, Rajasthan- the advanced technology of Concentrated Solar Power delivers 100 MW. Wind Project: Vashpet, Maharashtra- this 45 mw wind power project further extends the renewable portfolio of the Company.

Hydroelectric Power Projects: Reliance Power is also developing a bouquet of hydroelectric power projects. The projects are set up across Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand to support approximately 3,438 MW of hydroelectric power generation. They are at different stages of development and thus stand out as significant fruits in the future energy generation plans of the company.

International Ventures: Its international projects include the Samalkot Power Project located in Bangladesh. This project is for a 3,000 MW gas-based power plant that would be developed in phases. For this, the subsidiary Reliance Bangladesh LNG and Power Limited is developing long-term PPAs, and strategic alliance deals with international partners have been made, including Japan-based JERA Power International.

Projects under Non-Operation: Even though Reliance Power has a large set of projects, still many projects are yet to come into operational mode. For instance, the 600 MW Butibori power plant in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and the 3,960 MW Krishnapatnam Ultra Mega Power Project have encountered operational and regulatory hurdles. Additionally, a coal-based project in Madhya Pradesh is on hold due to changing market conditions and regulatory shifts.

Financial Performance of Reliance Power Limited

The power generator posted a net loss of ₹97.85 crore for the quarter ending in June this year, improved from a loss of ₹296.31 crore during the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.
Revenue increased 4.1% on a year-over-year basis to ₹1,992.2 crore for the period of April-June, from ₹1,914.3 crore in the same period a year ago.
EBITDA earnings, reflecting the operating income of the Company stood at ₹650.6 crore, representing an increase of 6% over last year.
EBITDA increased to 32.7% from 32.1% one year earlier for the same quarter.
