Tamil Nadu Telecommunications Limited., a Govt. of India Enterprises was incorporated on May 13, 1988 as a Public Limited Company.
It engaged in the manufacture of telephone cables.
The Company's products comprise of telecommunication grade optical fiber cables, ribbon cable, composite cables, self supporting aerial optical fiber cable, armored optical fiber cable and metal free optical fiber cable. The Company is Joint sector Govt.
Company with 49% of its shares held by Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL), a Government of India Enterprise and 14.63% held by Tamilnadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO), a Govt of Tamilnadu Enterprise. Company is an ISO 9001 certified company, having their optical fibre cable manufacturing facility at M.M. Nagar.
Their clients include BSNL, Tata Teleservices, Indian Railways, Reliance Infocom, AIRCEL, Hathway and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.

About Universal Cables Ltd

Incorporated as Universal Cables Limited (Formerly known as Hindustan Woollen Mills Limited) and promoted by M P Birla in 1945, the Company was renamed Universal Cables Limited (UCL) in 1961.
The Company is engaged in manufacturing and sale of Electrical and other Cables, Capacitors & Capacitor Banks, Wires and Conductors, etc. and Turnkey Projects predominantly relating to Electrical Cables/Capacitors & Capacitor Banks, etc.
It also co-promoted Vindhya Telelinks which manufactures jelly-filled telephone cables. Along with Vindhya Telelinks and Ericsson Cables, Sweden, Universal Cables promoted a new company, Birla Ericsson Opticals, to manufacture fibre optic cables. The Company commenced Commercial Production on 16th February, 1964.
It tied up with BICC, U.K., world's largest cable producer, for production of paper-insulated power cables.
